OOPS...I did it again!

Well, I did it again...I only have "2" pictures from Easter, and they are both of Bennett. I was waiting to take pictures of Powell and Blake before we left for church...and then we were running late...and, well, it never happened. Easter baskets...well, the same thing...Bennett was up first (probably because he's the youngest), and by the time the two older boys came downstairs the camera wasn't ready. It is so strange as they get older...I think next year when Lucy is here they will all share in her excitement...and there WILL be more pictures!!

Bennett goes to JA~

~Bennett, CFO Tacoma Water Company~

On Friday, Bennett's 5th grade class went to Junior Achievement. This is such a great program. There is a small city set up inside the building...and before the kids attend they are given a job at one of the businesses, they are given a checkbook and basic information on how their day will progress. The kids are paid a salary twice during the day, and on their break and lunch they are to go to the bank, deposit their paycheck, open a savings account, and withdraw cash to purchase snacks and lunch at the restaurant. They are encouraged to go out into the retail stores and purchase items by writing checks (many corporations sponsor this program so for instance the Mariners Team store has items donated by the Mariners).

Bennett's job was, Chief Financial Officer of the Water Company. His job was to input his company's loan amount into their computer, do payroll for all of their employees (5), pay bills to the other businesses for their services (ie:newspaper advertising, electricity, IRS, Recycling, insurance, rent, etc...), and input payments other business made to the Water Company, and at the end of the day did all the bank deposits, and then printed out a balance sheet to make sure their company acquired enough assets to pay off their loan amount.

It was such a full day, but it is so amazing to watch these kids. There is another program 8th grade students participate in, and at the high school level, 9th graders attend "mock" job interviews in the field of their choice. Powell did his interview this year...had to wear a shirt and tie, go through the interview process, and then was notified if he got the job or not. He didPosted by Picasa

Going Green~

In an attempt to "go green"...I am trying to change some of the products I use. Here are a few things that are working for me...so far.
Re-usable grocery bags. I love these from Trader Joe's, and I also have several others from different stores. I have been keeping them in my car...and take them with me grocery shopping. Since most stores now are selling their own versions, they are happy to load these bags for you...PLUS they hold so much more than the plastic bags!

I love the smell of this lavendar and mint dish soap...you can find it here.
My husband started buying these light bulbs because they were 99 cents @ Walgreen's...I still do not like the light they give for indoor lighting...however, I have started using them in the boys' bedrooms...they can't tell the difference, and I use them in all of our porch lights. They definitely last longer than any other light bulb.

I would love to know any other "green" products that you use and love!

A place to call my own~

I have followed my friend Leslie's lead...and created a place to call my own in this blog world. I want to be able to keep this blog about our family...and right now, our journey to Lucy. So...I created Ciao Bella!...a place to share great finds, some of my favorite things, and just be girly. Hope you will stop by for a visit.

Great Finds...

I collect cookbooks...and am always on the lookout for one that not only has good recipes, but is also a good read. I had "heard" about this cookbook on several blogs...the pictures alone are worth it! (...and, is there anything cuter than the red Mary Jane's on the cover??)

These cardigans are from here. but look like they could be from here and are only $19.99. They are so cute and preppy looking...and they fit great!! (I bought the chocolate brown...but am definitely going back for the green one!)

AAAHHH...I love coffee...and have had my share of espresso makers, but this is the absolute best. It is worth every penny ($$). It is from here. (Yes, I did get the orange one...it looks great in my kitchen!)

One of my new favorite blogs is Tracy Porter's. I have received her catalog for years, and have read her books. Her blog is so much fun...there are video posts where Tracy shows you around their studio, a quick bookshelf idea, fashion...and so much more. It is as if you are sitting there having tea with her and chatting...PLUS...she responds to comments and answers questions. If you love Tracy's style...like I do...you will enjoy her blog!

~Happy Spring~

~Prayer Request~
Our dossier was ready to head to China on 3/10 when it was discovered our agency had not received a signed agreement from our Social Workers agency. This particular document was submitted for approval 4 months ago. After several conversations with our social worker, we are still not any closer to having this document. Please pray that this issue will be resolved as soon as possible so our dossier can be on it's way~

Reflection~

Knowing how important it is to document every portion of this journey to Lucy, I felt I need to put into writing for her to read someday, the way I am feeling.

It has been 3 weeks waiting for our dossier to be finished. My goal had been to be DTC by the end of February, and here we are through the first week of March, with no word. I know that in the scheme of things this is such a short time, compared to all the waiting still to do. The most frustrating of all...is not being able to do anything to hurry it along...my part is done.

Our sweet girl will be 3 1/2 on Monday, and when we first saw her face she had only turned 3 one month prior... Now it seems by the time she's home she will quickly turn 4...we have already missed out on so much of her life, and everyday we wait seems like we are missing that much more. I can't seem to focus on much of anything...her room sits empty waiting for paint...I have waited my whole life to decorate a little girl's room, but never allowed myself to imagine how it would look...so I struggle with trying to decide bedding, paint, etc~ I know all that matters is the love I put into it.

In light of these things...here are my reflections~

~"My goal" is not what's important, I have trusted the Lord in every step of this journey, and I will trust that his timing is always perfect

~I am grateful that we will get to celebrate Lucy's 4th birthday with her!

~I need to start focusing on all the things that I would like to have done before Lucy comes home...because once she is home, she will be my focus

~Knowing that we will not bring Lucy home until summer...I can focus all my attention on the boys and their activities as school winds down for the year

~Our next few months are full of birthdays, Easter, a wedding, and showers...so many wonderful things to celebrate

~I will wait to be inspired by something "I love" for Lucy's bedroom
